  • Underwater Salvage and Recovery: Planning a Safe Recovery Operation

Underwater salvage and recovery may involve locating and recovering anchors, equipment, structural components or other submerged objects. Successful recovery depends on accurate information, appropriate lifting arrangements and safe coordination between divers and the surface team.

Search and Identification

The first stage is normally to establish the last known position and conduct an underwater search. Divers, CCTV systems or other suitable survey methods may be used depending on depth, visibility, current and seabed conditions.

Recovery Planning

Once the object is identified, the team evaluates its approximate condition, accessibility, possible entanglement, seabed embedment and suitable lifting or rigging points. Lifting capacity and the recovery method must be appropriate for the expected load and operating conditions.

Controlled Execution

Clear communication between the diver, diving supervisor and surface lifting team is essential. The recovery plan should account for suspended loads, rigging hazards, vessel movement and changing environmental conditions.

PT Commercial Diving Indonesia provides underwater search, inspection and recovery support for marine operations in Indonesia.
